Hexagonal Satsuma bowl of the Meiji period, decorated with richly enamelled throngs of figures including Immortals, groups of Geisha, and townsfolk, in a landscape of mountains, forests and bamboo groves surrounded by bands of gilded decoration.
The bowl is 16.5cm across at its widest point, and 14.5 across its shortest and stands 6.5 cm tall. On the reverse is a mark which reads ''Kitamura'', for Japanese Meiji Period, Kyo-Satsuma.
The bowl is in good condition with the gentle surface wear to some of the enamel / gilding that can be expected from a piece of this age. There is a small chip to the underside of the foot / base but this is unseen when displayed the right way up.
