Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A suzani is a hand-embroidered tribal textile originating from Central Asian nations such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Historically created as part of a brides wedding dowry, these pieces feature symbolic floral, astral, and botanical motifs embroidered with silk thread onto narrow cotton or linen fabric strips.

Traditional suzanis are crafted using silk thread embroidered onto hand-spun cotton or linen grounds. The fabric is initially woven in narrow strips, drawn on by a master designer, distributed to family members for embroidery using chain stitch or couching techniques, and finally sewn together into a single panel.

Authentic suzanis display subtle variations in stitch tension, thread dye lots, and alignment where the vertical woven strips meet. The reverse side reveals hand-tied knots and irregular thread paths rather than the uniform machine backing seen in modern reproductions.

A large suzani can be mounted as a statement wall hanging above a sofa or bed to add texture and visual interest. It can also be used draped over soft furnishings, folded as a bed runner, or framed behind glass as acoustic and decorative art.

Silk suzanis should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fibre degradation and dye fading. Cleaning must be left to specialist textile conservators; water or commercial detergents should not be applied to historical silk threads due to the risk of dye bleeding.
