1920’s CARLTON WARE FLOWER BOWL WITH REPOUSSE PEWTER OVERLAYS.
This is a really super bowl, and with the pewter overlays, is not one that is seen very often.
A large floating flower bowl, standing 8cm high, 33cm long and 22cm wide, it is glazed in a lustrous purple iridescent glaze, which Carlton Ware called ‘Lustrine’.
On all four sides are repousse pewter overlays, cut in the shape of leaves and berries - the grey of the pewter really sits well with the purple lustre. It is thought that Carlton Ware may have supplied pewter blanks to establishments such as the Glasgow School of Art for these overlays to be made, and they are certainly created in the arts and crafts style.
The bowl is in excellent ‘used’ condition, commensurate with its age, but with no chips or cracks, and would be a fantastic addition to any collection, or a very worthy centre piece.
