This is a really elegant extending floor lamp of the type you would find in the larger country houses on account of the fact that it can extend to quite a great height - perfect for taller rooms as well as sitting comfortably in any home.
The lamp dates from around the the end of the 18th and turn of the 19th century and comprises of a copper base, standing resplendent on four brass lions paws. Above is an intricately scrolled and worked pedestal. The central pole is brass and has a telescopic section mid way up that allows the lamp to be extended.
I have had the whole lamp fully re-wired by an antique lighting specialist, and fitted with a corded cable. (In the photographs, the tiny green wire is the earth)
Fully extended the lamp is 175cm tall (!), but in its regular state it''s 124cm, and can of course be made to stand at any height in between. The copper base measures 27 across, and is 33cm across from paw to paw.
The light works beautifully and would be switched on and
...off at the wall rather than on the lamp itself. The shade can come with it for free if you''d like it, but can de delivered without if its not to your taste or colour scheme!
It''s in lovely condition as I hope the photographs illustrate, but it does of course have the surface wear you would expect from an item of this age - there are a few dings to the copper and slight surface wear, but these are hard to notice when viewed as a whole. Please study the photos and if I can provide any further information or images, don''t hesitate to get in touch.
Due to the size of the lamp it would best be collected or delivered in person, so I can help arrange the best way to get it to you - anything is possible!
