18th Century Mahogany Pie-crust Tilt-top Tripod Table

One glance at this archetypal English antique pie-crust pedestal table, and it is easy to imagine yourself in a drawing room in the second-half of the 18th Century - a time when mahogany was the timber of choice and cabinet making was at its zenith. Its pie-crust top is made from one piece of mahogany, and tilt''s to the vertical by releasing the period brass catch that can be easily located underneath. Its decorated tripod base is original, and the fine carved decoration is typical of this period. There are a few signs of early restoration, such as extra screws holding the bearers in place, but these are part and parcel of its history. Equally, there are contact marks that strongly suggest the top and the pedestal are original and not married together. Our restorers have also added another chapter by carrying out minor repairs and enhancing its surface.
