Description
This impressive 19th-century still life depicts a sumptuous bounty of fruit, oysters, flowers and porcelain. It’s an abundant display - a celebration of nature. This iconic style of still life was made popular by the Dutch old masters in the 17th-century when many of the goods depicted were considered highly exotic and precious. Middle-class buyers commissioned thousands of works to declare their newly acquired wealth and beautify their homes. One such master, Abraham van Beyeren (c.1620-1690), painted in a similar manner so perhaps the artist was a follower. The painting is housed within its original 19th-century frame. Medium: Oil on canvas Overall size: 35” x 48½” / 89cm x 123cm Year of creation: c. 1870 Condition: Canvas undulant towards the top. Relined. Frame bowed towards the bottom. We're able to ship internationally and offer free delivery throughout the UK.
