Antique Carved Wood Classical Sculpture

Description

A beautiful and very unusual antique sculpture, carved from solid wood. This looks like it is most likely Italian, it depicts an intimate scene from biblical times. It is hard to date this, it could be 100 years old, or it could be much, much older!

The sculpture is all intact, with the many layers of paint and polish peeling in places. It must have been refinished many times over the years.

In places this seems crude, but actually upon close inspection this appears to have been crafted with someone with great skill, leading us to believe that it could actually be a very early piece.
