This Good-Sized Pair Of French Fauteuil Open Armchairs have an abundance of charm. Of a restrained elegant form embellished with fine carving, with not a straight line anywhere in their design.
The curvaceous front legs with finely carved detailing, coupled to the generous curve of the carved front rail, have an organic form that continues throughout the whole chair. A decent underframe adds strength to the chair. The arms also display some good carving as well as fine shaping that is only achieved by fine craftsmanship. The back frame continues the shaped and carved design.
The Chairs are covered in a tapestry of floral design, that is showing signs of wear in places and has faded to a very subtle overall colour palette, which is to be expected of fabrics of this age. The outside backs of the chairs are covered in a plain fabric, as was the custom in chairs of this vintage.
Always nice to see the tenon locking dowels protruding slightly due to differential shrinkage of the timber in the frame, once again showing the age of the chairs. A very elegant, understated pair of chairs, offering a generous and very comfortable place to sit and relax.
