Description

A good example of a Victorian walnut upright stationery cabinet box c1880. The two doors open to reveal tiered storage for stationery, inkwells, a pencil box and lower pull out drawer. Above this section is a removable and full working calendar, with printed canvas days, dates and months each operated by two buttons. The lift out calendar sits above a full height hideaway area for precious papers. The original porcelain writing tile is present in the right hand door. And the left door holds a small book stand and ribboned keeper (one ribbon is loose). The right door has a lock but no key is present.

The box is mainly constructed of figured walnut but the calendar lid is veneered in burr walnut for decorative effect.

In remarkably good condition, and it is exceptional to find a calendar in working order and other pieces of detail still present. A lovely and impressive desk accessory.
