Japy Freres Ormolu and Sevres Porcelain Antique French Clock

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A stunning antique French Rococo clock. Beautifully made in finely gilded bronze and mounted with exquisite Sèvres style porcelain. The case is of a waisted design with profuse, twirling acanthus decoration and scrolls. Porcelain has a white ground with panels delicately painted with scenes. Below the dial, the panel shows a young couple relaxing by a river.

The urn to the top shows the young gentleman playing a lute and the smaller panels show tranquil country scenes. The dial is also porcelain and has a finely painted scene of a folly beside a lake surrounded by trees. It is complete with its original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glass.

The French movement is by Louis Japy and is of the maker's usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock running, please ask and we will send it to you.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with occasional slight discolouration and marks. The porcelain is also in excellent condition, some slight wear to the over glaze gilt decoration particularly on the dial and a small nibble to the left hand winding hole.
