Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Grand Tour specimen marble table is a nineteenth-century decorative table featuring a top inlaid with various geometric samples of marble, hardstones, and minerals. These were acquired by European travellers as souvenirs while visiting historical sites in Italy and across the Mediterranean during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The tops are constructed using diverse geological specimens, such as Sienna marble, porphyry, serpentine, malachite, and lapis lazuli, set into a black marble or slate matrix. The supporting bases are typically crafted from mahogany, rosewood, or gilded timber.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut stone tesserae with subtle thickness variations, traditional slate backing, and period-correct joinery on the timber base. Reproductions often utilise synthetic resin fillers, modern plywood substrates, or uniform machine-cut stone veneers.

This type of table serves as a focal point when positioned in a foyer, beside an armchair, or in a bay window. Placing it alongside minimalist furnishings allows the complex colourful geometry of the stone inlay to draw visual attention.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, clean microfibre cloth and avoid placing liquid containers directly onto the marble to prevent acid etching or staining. Apply a specialised neutral marble wax periodically to protect the porous stone, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources to preserve the timber joinery.
