A Fine Quality 19th French Four-glass Mantel Clock with Perpetual Calendar and Moonphase Indication.

19th century
Description

A fine quality late 19th century French marble and gilt brass perpetual calendar, four glass mantel clock with moonphase indication.

The large and impressive case with moulded marble cornice over marble upright corners and bevelled glass panels to a moulded stepped base. Two doors, front and rear, allowing for easy access to all controls and parts.

The clock dial with Roman hours encircling a recessed centre with jewelled visible Brocot escapement set over another dial giving full perpetual calendar information of month, day and date as well as moonphases, all enclosed by the bissextile chapter.

The day of the month automatically corrects for the shorter months and thus takes the correct action on 28, 29 (for leap years), 30, or 31 day months.

Both dials set within an engraved gilded mask of elaborate foliate scrolls on a matted ground,

The fully restored eight day twin barrel clock movement with circular plates united by four pillars and rack striking the hours and half hour on a single bell, stamped Bailly a Paris and numbered.

Both movements are of remarkable quality and design, in fully functioning restored order.

A very fine and rare clock in excellent original condition with the movements fully restored..

All of our clock movements are restored by our horologist who works exclusively for us.

Our horologist is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
