N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This beautiful antique bracket clock has an oak case with a fantastic rich colour and grain.
This then leads to the square back of the clock which then has four thin, square feet which finish it perfectly. Finally the back door has a glass viewing window so that the movement can be seen.
The bracket then has a beautiful square top with a thin edging to the very top. The top section of the bracket is then inlet so that the feet fit into the bracket perfectly. Finally the bracket has a lovely carved support to the bottom.
The dial is then painted and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The centre of the dial is then signed by the maker “HENNESSY, SWANSEA”. Finally the movement is finished by two lovely shaped hands as well as a bevelled glass set into a brass bezel.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is a chain fusee example of the upmost quality and comes complete with its regulating pendulum, travel nut, and winding key. It ticks away as it should and chimes the number of hours via a gong.
“Bernard Hennessy worked at Wind Street in Swansea from 1841-1875. He is noted in Peates 'Clockmakers in Wales' book as a contractor to the admiralty.”
