This is a fine Welsh chip carved knitting sheath. It is made from fruitwood and dated 1820.
The front has a belt hook with a flowering jardiniere and there are some geometric panels. On the reverse is a carved flower and bird on a branch. Around the top it is inscribed ''MAM''. It comes from Dr. Mc Feeters collection, the author of a book on knitting sheaths.
