A rare Victorian silver plated novelty inkwell fashioned in the form of a barrel on stand, in turn standing on a brick paving; beautiful detail such as the hooks to the back of the stand and incorporating a pen rest to the front, I am including the (new) dip pen to finish the offering ready to adorn the finest of desk tops.
Just back from our silversmith''s workshop where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it''s former glory. He informed me that the inside, the barrel is a glass liner, quite amazing, the barrel wrapped around the glass liner. The little hinged lid to the inkwell is lucky enough to have an English design registration diamond-shaped lozenge allowing us to date the registration of this design to June 30th 1856.
A highly collectable piece in excellent condition measuring 6'' in diameter x 3 1/2'' tall.
