Beautiful French black marble and serpentine mantel clock c1880

This is a superb example of a late 19th century French mantel clock.

The case is quite extraordinary made of jet black nero belgio marble with green serpentine marble decoration. The clock is in the Grecian archectural style popular during the late 19th century both here and in France the perfect white enamel dial is flanked by a pair of ionic serpentine pillars to each side.

The detail is quite superb with gilt engraving and decoration.

The white enamel dial is in perfect original condition with no hairline cracks or chips, the glass is also in perfect original condition.

It has one of the finest French movements that you will find, it is totally original and has just undergone a full and comprehensive restoration and overhaul by Alan Williams of Plymouth Clocks, a Fellow of the British Horological Institute, so is in tip top condition and should give trouble free service for many years to come.

It comes with its original numbered pendulum and a key.

It runs for over 8 days between winding and strikes on the hour and half hour on a tuned coiled gong.

This clock dates from about 1880 and has obviously been highly prized and looked after, the condition is a credit to its previous owners.

The clock movement comes with a full 12 month warranty.
