Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian games box is a decorative wooden casket designed to hold parlour games, playing cards, chess pieces, or cribbage boards. Popular during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, these boxes were created as display pieces for drawing rooms and libraries.

High-end nineteenth-century caskets were constructed using figured timber veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, or coromandel. Exterior decorations often featured gilt brass or nickel strapwork, ivory or bone inlays, and semi-precious stone cabochons such as malachite or agate.

Authentic pieces generally display period-correct construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints, brass Bramah or lever locks, and natural patination on metal mounts. The presence of hand-engraved brass ornamentation and original polished timber veneers also indicates nineteenth-century manufacture.

A decorative games box functions well as a focal point on a console table, sideboard, or study desk. Its rich timber tones and polished brass details add visual texture and historical depth when layered alongside books, ceramics, or modern table lamps.

Keep the wood hydrated and protected using a high-quality beeswax polish applied sparingly with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on brass or malachite cabochons, and position the object away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking.
