Description

An impressive London Georgian mahogany moon phase longcase clock. A fine quality case with an arched pediment flanked by two original brass finials. Rear brass quarter hood columns and side sound fretwork panels. Brass stopped fluted hood, trunk and base side columns as seen on the best London cases of this period. A re-entrant raised base panel and the original double base skirting. A brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels and matted centre. A seconds and date dial. Lunar moon phases to the arch and makers name engraved above. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A strike/silent lever to the 3 o'clock position. Circa 1760.

John Uffington of London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1702-1767. His son, John worked 1727-1739 and were members of the Clockmakers Company. An example is in a National Trust House.
