Corvidae Antique has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
In Victorian England a flying swallow was traditionally considered a token of good luck and the bird represented enduring love and loyalty, as the swallow mates for life.

Marked 15CT. Fifteen-carat gold pieces are not overly common (in the UK only really used between 1854 and 1932) and as this fineness was generally used in high quality pieces, it is attractive to collectors.

Secures with a safety pin fixing.
The brooch is overall in very good antique condition, the enamel is a little flawed, mostly toward the tips of the wings and the tail.
Size: 5cm long, the swallow measures approximately 1.7 x 1.3cm.
Weight: 3.6g.
