Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets has dated this piece to the 1870s.
What is also particularly attractive is the top panel with its depiction of seven full '8' pointed stars together with a rather squashed star on the far right side! There is some minor brown-dye corrosion within a couple of the stars otherwise the bag-face is in remarkably very good condition.
For reference, see the recently published book ‘Nomadic Visions’ by Michael Rothberg where he illustrates a similar piece on page 206 and attributes the ‘joval’ to “South Kurdistan, north of Kermanshah”.
