Jeff Sims Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The pull-off lid has a part hallmark, along with a full set to the base. The interior is richly gilded. Small pieces like this were used to scent cupboards or chests of drawers and were filled with violet, lavender, rose or other fragrant petals. They were also component parts of large travelling toiletry sets and are not easily found. A good collector's piece, both decorative and practical. Dimensions below.
