Antique silver pocket watch with Harland & Wolff connection.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name Syren, a brand name used by an importer of watches manufactured by Record and Revue.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is inscribed, ‘1st Prize, Harland & Wolff’s Sports, 1919’

Harland & Wolff is a Belfast shipyard famous for building many of the ocean liners for the White Star Line, including HMS Titantic. The Belfast shipyard was founded in 1861 by Yorkshireman Edward Harland and his German business partner, Gustav Wolff.

At the time this watch was made, the company was re-fitting The Olympic.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and is hallmarked for London (import mark), 1918.

The bezel has a 1cm indentation and a little unevenness, there is also an indentation to the side and some slight unevenness to the hinged back. Engine turned detail to the back of the watch together with a vacant cartouche to the centre.

The watch has an acrylic lens which has light marking but is very acceptable.

The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
