Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian burr walnut bookcases were created during the 19th century, featuring highly figured wood veneers cut from walnut tree growths. They typically combine glazed upper doors for book storage or display with solid lower cupboards and drawers, finished with ornate carved details and pediments.

These cabinets primarily feature burr walnut veneers laid over solid pine or oak carcases. Glazed doors contain float glass panels, secured with timber glazing bars, while brass handles, escutcheons, and steel lock mechanisms complete the construction.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, hand-planed backboards, and natural age-related shrinkage lines in the veneer. Locks, hinges, and shelf adjustment ladders from the period also indicate genuine 19th-century manufacture.

Position the piece against a plain or painted wall to allow the figured walnut grain to stand out. Use the upper glazed shelves to display ceramics, glassware, or art books alongside traditional literature to balance historic furniture with modern decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and timber bleaching.
