A Fine Bronze Study of a Medieval Young Man by Emile Picault.

This superb bronze study is the work of the highly esteemed French sculptor Emile Picault (1833 – 1915). It portrays a young man from the medieval period who is dressed in a hat, tunic and leggings with lace up boots. Under one arm he is carrying a large leather bound book and in his opposite hand, he is holding a lantern. From his waist, he has a large sword hanging from a chain that is attached to his belt. He is stood looking back as if he is being approached from behind in the darkness. This fine bronze is in good condition. It is signed on the rear of its bronze base. It has two tone mid and dark brown patination and is mounted on the original circular dark russet polished marble plinth with a moulded top edge.
