Clockwise is proud to present for your consideration possibly an important clock. It definitely can be traced back to the Croydon store of this famous retailer - the store opened in the late 1880''s. What isn''t clear is which period this clock dates from. There is an anecdotal note within the case stating that this clock comes from the 1880''s but I cannot definitively substantiate this. There is a repair mark to the rear of the dial from 1942 so to date the clock from the 1920''s seems as accurate as can be. However this clock movement was definitely manufactured by Thwaites and Reed who were, and are, exemplary clockmakers being in business as a partnership from 1826. They established themselves as one of the most important clockmaking firms in the country, making clocks for themselves and for luminaries such as Vuillamy, Ellicott, Dutton and Elliott. The firm is still trading today and looks after Big Ben.
The fully restored and beautiful twelve inch dial is complimented by the... original hands within a turned oak surround in fantastic condition. The boxed cabinet has both a lower and side door. The recently restored eight day fusee movement has the thick quality plates you would associate with a high quality movement which retains its original pendulum.
Overall this is a stunning clock and comes with my three year guarantee as standard.
