Description

A Bone 'Selenus' Chess Set, Nuremberg, Mid 19th Century

one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings and queens with pierced 'barrel' galleries to the centre sections, kings surmounted with crosses, bishops with cleft mitres, knights as arched horses heads, rooks as squat turrets, pawns with urn finialsm in an associated wooden box with a folding flap to the front and two hinged clasps to the front

King: 9cm high (2.3cm base diameter)

Pawn: 3.1cm high (2.1cm base diameter)

Box: 21.5cm wide, 7.5cm high, 11.5cm deep
