Antique French Moss Agate and Gilded Box - 19th Century

Description

A fabulous nineteenth century Grand Tour box, French or German in origin dating to c.1880.

The panels of chamfered agate are fitted into the gilded brass or Ormolu cage and the box stands on four spherical polished agate feet.

The panels of stone are intact without loss, the ormolu retains the original gold, the hinged lid in excellent working order. A lovely example in very good condition, minor wear commensurate with age.

The footprint measures 4 1/2" x 3 1/8" and the lid measuring 4" x 2 1/2"; standing 2 1/4" tall.
