Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gueridon is a circular accent table originating in 17th-century France, supported by a central column or tripod legs. Designed to support candelabras, vases, or small items, these tables evolved during the 18th and 19th centuries into prominent room centrepieces featuring marble tops and carved timber bases.

19th-century French gueridons combine solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers with thick, polished marble tops such as Vert Antique or Belgian Black. The supporting structure features hand-carved timber columns, carved tripod legs, and brass wheel castors.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved detailing, natural hand-shaped marble with unpolished undersides, and original brass castors. Examination beneath the apron reveals hand-cut joinery, traditional timber block construction, and aged patination across the wood finish.

Position the table in an entryway, bay window, or empty corner to establish a architectural anchor. Combining the dark marble top with sculptural ceramics or foliage creates a balanced contrast against contemporary muted walls.

Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral, non-abrasive stone cleaner and absorb liquid spills immediately to prevent etching. Protect the mahogany base by applying a high-quality beeswax polish annually, keeping the table away from direct heat sources to preserve the veneer.
