Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
Each section was then finely decorated using a technique where the copper was raised with a hammer and punches to form the three dimensional flowers then hand pierced to give further definition then completely hand-engraved for the fine detail. This complicated piece would have taken many days to produce. It is finished in polished silver plate. The bag has a hinged top with a catch for access and a large engraved swing handle. This most unusual piece could have been originally intended for use as an evening bag or more likely a novelty box or container to be used on a dressing table or desk. Stamped on the underside with a two character Chinese makers mark. Either way, it is a beautiful object. It is in very good condition with only the faintest signs of wear to the silver plating.
