For Sale by Curious Antiques
Description

Rare large antique 19th century Polynesian tribal hardwood paddle club, c 1890. It is clearly hand carved , a good weight 0.8kg and has lovely primitive tribal form and look. It would display well in a modern or older setting. The club is carved in traditional form with a single rib to the paddle head and a bulbous end/handle. Overall condition is good and exactly as you would expect for an antique example with only minor cracking, rubbing and wear to the wood. It has aged well with great rich colour/patina. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Polynesian paddle club is a traditional hand-carved wooden object historically crafted across Pacific island nations for ceremonial, defensive, and everyday utilitarian purposes.

These items were predominantly carved from single pieces of dense indigenous hardwoods, selected for durability and weight, and finished through polishing with natural oils.

Authentic examples typically display smooth, hand-carved surface contours, evidence of hand-tooling rather than modern machinery, and a deep, naturally aged patina from handling and environmental exposure.

This type of artifact is commonly mounted vertically on a neutral accent wall, displayed inside a custom shadow box, or placed on a bespoke metal stand within a gallery-style collection.

Keep the wood in a stable climate with controlled humidity, away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, and dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
