Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Canterbury is a specialized piece of furniture featuring partitioned vertical dividers designed originally to hold sheet music, bound folios, or manuscripts. Named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who commissioned the initial design in the late eighteenth century, these stands evolved to include additional drawers and shelves for functional living room storage.

Regency era Canterburys were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, occasionally featuring delicate wood marquetry or stringing. The functional components typically incorporate brass hardware, including turned brass drawer pulls and brass wheel castors fitted to the base of the legs.

Authentic Regency examples display classical proportions, fine hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and period-correct brass castors. Look for characteristic design elements of the early nineteenth century, such as bamboo-style turnings, delicate reeding, and evidence of genuine hand-planed timber surfaces on the underside.

An antique Canterbury functions effectively as an accent piece beside an armchair or sofa to store current magazines, books, or art prints. Its elevated profile and lower drawer also suit placement in a hallway or library alcove to display oversized publications.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a pure beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the original finish and deep colour. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp conditions to prevent wood shrinkage or joint movement.
