Escutcheon-back/shepherd's Crook Armchair

A exceptional and very rare George I period ‘escutcheon-back’ walnut armchair with mahogany back. The well-shaped and curved mahogany back above a circular seat retaining the ORIGINAL TAPESTRY cover, with two scrolled and out-swept arms. Standing on magnificent cabriole front legs with ball and claw feet, and out-swept back legs.
 
Seat height is 17.25 inches.
 
Early 18th century ''escutcheon back'' or ''shepherds crook'' armchairs are extremely rare and to find one with original tapestry seat is possibly unique. This one is exceptionally well drawn with superb flowing lines to the out-swept arms and about the best ball & claw feet you are ever likely to see. The ultimate in early Georgian desk-chairs.
