Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.

The box is beautifully inlaid with exquisite Mother of Pearl floral sprays including one around the escutcheon, framed with polished Pewter stringing.
The box opens to reveal an attractive and useful interior, with a removal tray to the front of the box and deep section to the back to store larger items. This area has been professionally re-lined in a green hand-marbled paper. The jewel-toned velvet lining in the lid falls forward to reveal a paper pocket behind. There would have been a mirror stored at the back of the lid.

Unusually, there is a drawer to the side which has a working key (the tasselled key to the main section of the box is for display only) revealing more silk-lined storage.
The patina is bright and glossy enhancing this magical wood, in excellent condition. Measures 10 3/4" x 8 1/4" x 6" tall.
