Pair of decorative late C19th gilded brass candlelamps modelled as ‘basket-guard’ cavalry dress swords .
Mounted upon tripod supports cast in the form of cavalry spurs , the inverted wire-bound black shagreen grips with an intricately cast basket-guard and hilt . The guard cast with the regimental or royal cypher of intertwined “VR” for Victoria Regina ( Queen Victoria ) . The blade bearing a patent design registration number .
Designed and manufactured by Benham & Froud of Chandos St., London (1855-1924) .
The truncated blades of the sabres mounted with an adjustable light-fitting and topped with parchment shades .
