A Rare Chinese famille verte teapot decorated with the « Hundred Antiquities ». Kangxi period
Of baluster ribbed shape, and decorated in the famille verte palette with the “Hundred Antiquities” (bai gu), including a central archaic vase of late 17th to early 18th century

A similar teapot is in the Chita Collection.‘Top’ or ‘over’ handles, such as the one on this teapot, assumed their basic form from Chinese wine pots/teapots and were common during this period. By 1710, however, they were becoming less prevalent due to their impracticality in the preparation of tea.
The Hundred Antiques is a miscellaneous or general collection of emblematic forms comprising the Eight Treasures, the Four Treasures, the symbols of Four Fine Arts (music, chess, calligraphy, and painting) together with numerous conventional representations of sacrificial vessels, flowers, animals.
