A Gorgeous Georgian Cut Glass Pineapple Stand

A superb Georgian cut glass pineapple/ham stand. In Georgian and Victorian times, pineapples were hugely expensive and and to have one was a conspicuous sign of wealth. Families would sometimes have a pineapple stand in cut glass or ceramic on a side table or as a dining table centerpiece. Upturned they would also double as a ham stand and a large joint, surrounded by fruit and decoration would provide the focal point of a gathering or feast. This handsome and desirable Georgian example has a waisted centre, with extensive step cutting and a wide panel of star cut diamonds.. A rare and desirable piece of early 19th Century table glass. Condition :- Excellent, with no cracks or serious chips. As is always the case, the stand has a number of samll fleabites and 'frits', commensurate with age and use.
