This unusual ENGLISH BLUE & WHITE TRANFER PRINTED STAND, dating from around 1830, bears the Pattern Name ''CANOVIAN STATUES'' to the base with the Maker''s Mark H.B. & Co beneath.
This could either be the mark for Harvey, Bailey & Co of Lane End, Staffordshire Potteries (1833-5) or Henry Brown & Co of High Street, Lane End, Staffordshire Potteries (1828-1830).
The Pattern would seem to be inspired by the much-celebrated Italian Sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1827) who spent some time in Britain.
The potting of the Stand is quite sophisticated with very smooth, liquid glaze and a well-formed foot rim.
There are some minor grazes to the edge and nicks to the foot rim. There is no restoration.
Width: 15 inches (38 cm)
