Large early C20th Chinese carved wood ,gilded and polychrome decorated study of a Tang Dynasty war-horse .

Highly decorative large-scale study of a Chinese horse with atmospheric aged patina to the gilded and polychrome painted decoration. Depicted in harness and saddled , rearing with front leg raised in classic pose .

War horses were the pride of the Tang (AD 618-907) , a dynasty of prosperity, military expansion and artistic development. Sculptural horse studies such as this , with the stylised arched neck , pricked ears ,and heavy torso , convey confidence , distinction and charm , the qualities much admired in these majestic animals by their owners.

Minor historic repairs but no breaks or structural damage.
