Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

The hinged lid comes complete with a working key, unusually, you move the key anti-clockwise to unlock. The centre of the lid has an engraved impressive armorial crest, clearly this piece belonged to an important family.

The underside is signed by the London silversmith, George Richmond Collis of 130 Regent Street, London. Being such a special piece, it is lucky enough to have been struck with and English design registration diamond shaped lozenge, which allows us to date this design to 12th March 1866.
Exquisite in every way and in excellent condition measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2".
