Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A standish, commonly referred to as an inkstand, is a tray or container designed to hold writing equipment, including inkwells, pens, and sealing wax. Popular throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, these items were essential desk fixtures in formal offices and private studies.

Victorian standishes were crafted using solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak combined with silverplate, electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), brass, or sterling silver mounts, frequently housing removable glass or metal ink pots.

Authentic Victorian silverplated pieces typically display makers marks or registration stamps on the metal edges or base, along with stamps denoting electroplating such as EPNS. Period construction details like dovetailed timber joinery and hand-engraved motifs further indicate historical authenticity.

Position the standish on a contemporary office desk, library table, or hallway console to create a focal point. It can serve functionally to store fountain pens, paperclips, and small desk accessories.

Dust the timber base regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly, taking care not to allow wax contact with the metalwork. Clean silverplated components using a silver polishing cloth to avoid removing the thin layer of silver plating.
