This Magnificent and rare Suff Box is of oval form with a Tortoiseshell Lid and Silver sides and Base.
The Cover is inset with a detailed pressed tortoiseshell portrait in profile of Queen Anne.
The top is signed OB for John Obrisset , who was of Huguenot descent , and was a specialist carver and medalist.He worked in Silver , horn and tortoiseshell and a specialist in snuff boxes with portraits in relief.
Examples can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Meseum in London and in The Royal Collection in Buckingham Palace
A near identical piece is shown on page 108 of British Silver Boxes 1640-1840, The Lion Collection.
The Silver is Hallmarked for London 1806
