Description

In the 18th and Early to Mid 19th Century, the Gadsby Family were well known Clockmakers in the Leicester Area. Starting with Thomas who was Apprenticed to Samuel Deacon 1789-96 at Barton before setting up on his own till his death in 1826 when his wife Continued. There is a Sarah Gadsby listed as 1835 and an R. circa 1849. As well as other Gadsbys in the surrounding area.

In one of the Photos you will see a label for Bell & Sons, who have confirmed that in 2005 a Mrs Gadsby Stored this Clock with them. As this Clock came to me from London, maybe she moved South? Either way a Gadsby owned this Clock at that time - Happy Families.

The Case Exhibits a number of Woods that must have been Quite Exotic for the Date of it Construction. The Hood with Swan Neck Pediment and Slender Mahogany Turned Columns. Height 87in or 221cm.

The Dial is Charming with a White Enamel Painted Face with an Attractive Country Pursuit Scene and Seashore Beach Scene with Shells in Each Quarter. Seconds Dial and Date Window.

The 8 Day Twin Weight Movement has been Checked, Serviced and Tested to be in Good and Full Antique Working Condition.
