An envelope card table is a French-designed gaming table equipped with four triangular hinged leaves on the top surface. These leaves flip outwards from the centre, rotating on a central pivot to double the usable surface area for card games.

High-grade French card tables from the late 19th century typically feature hardwood frames veneered with exotic timbers like kingwood, tulipwood, or rosewood in parquetry patterns. They are accented with finely chased gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts and lined with baize or felt playing surfaces.

Authentic pieces display heavy, hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts, precise parquetry veneering, and solid brass pivoting mechanisms. Stamping or signatures from prominent Parisian cabinetmakers, such as Francois Linke, are often located on the locks, mounts, or underside of the timber frame.
