Gents 9ct Gold Smiths Astral Aquatite Watch, 1966

The watch has a good quality hand-winding movement, the 17-jewel slimline calibre 60464, which is working nicely. The movement is stamped ‘Made in England’.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is a good heavy weight and is 9 carat gold, there are hallmarks inside the screw-on case back for Birmingham 1966 with a case maker’s mark for the Birmingham based case maker Aaron Dennison. The case is the Aquatite model and was proudly advertised at the time as being “a watertight watch case”… as with any vintage watch however, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The front and sides of the case are in good condition. The screw-on case back has some light surface marking, perhaps where it has been polished. There is a long service inscription to the back of the watch from Wilmot Breeden Ltd, a major supplier of parts to the British motor industry.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish which has aged nicely and now has a good “tropical” appearance.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
