As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most opulent Meiji Period 1868-1912 silver mounted gold lacquer & shibayama tanto ( dagger ) this exceptional find has been in a long established UK collection and arrived  to us in remarkable original condition, the gold lacquered scabbard is fitted with fine quality silver and gold chrysanthemum mounts with matching kozuka handle, the intricate shibayama work comprises of a cockerel in a prunus blossom and chicks within floral displays, with further displays of flora in ikebana baskets and hardstone vessels to the reverse, the artist has used semi precious stones and shells to great effect, the tanto case is signed Akashi in an oblong cartouche, this would usually be the shibayama artist, the steel blade is carved with the three friends of winter, bamboo, prunus and pine, a fantastic condition dagger to enhance your Japanese arms or Meiji period works of art collection .
