Description

A late Victorian silver mounted square cut lead crystal scent or toilette bottle with clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1889 and makers mark for John GRINSELL and Sons. The inside of the lid is also hallmarked. This is a beautiful and quality piece with its unusual square shape and complex cutting - hobnail cut in the centre of the four panels, surrounded by arches of small diamond cutting, bands arching over that and sweeping to the base. The base itself is star cut. The lid is ornately gadrooned and decorated with floral repousse work with a blank central cartouche . The hinge works perfectly, the lid snaps shut and the original stopper is present. In excellent condition.

Classy, unusual in shape and substantial.
