This Antique Tibetan chest is 18th century.

These are magical items of furniture that provide great storage as well as spark the imagination of where they have been used. Often, they were in Monasteries, also important homes to be used for storage.

Covered on the front and sides with a fabric to give texture, and then painted with a full dragon (a symbol of power and authority). Usually only the earlier chests are covered in the fabric.

There are hand forged iron strappings (for protection) and hinges to the outer edges, that give an extra charm to this fascinating item.

You will see these elsewhere at dramatically higher prices but as we were fortunate to find this example at a reasonable cost, we can sell it for this very good price.
