Description

A gorgeous sparkling 19th century swallow brooch studded with old-cut diamond pastes with a ruby eye accent.

In Victorian England a flying swallow was traditionally considered a token of good luck and the bird represented enduring love and loyalty, as the swallow mates for life.

The brooch is marked 800 (silver fineness) on the reverse.

Overall in very good vintage condition. There are some tiny holes in the back where the ends of the paste chatons have poked through the silver slightly; the pin is a little bent but works perfectly well.

Fixes with a simple C clasp.
