15thc / 16thc Sandstone Head - "The Green Man". English C1450-c1500.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

A rare example of the ''Green Man'' who was a Pagan symbol representing spring and fertility....it is carved out of what looks like sandstone and has been worked on two sides, so it is angular and has probably come from a historical building such as a church, castle or manor house...in excellent condition with a pleasing expression and good size.

English. C15thc /16thc. Provenance of a private collection.
