A superb oil on artist board still life by James Fry (1911-1985). The work in a vivid post-impressionist manner in thick impasto oil shows a blue jug with gladioli. The painting is signed with initials to the lower right and also retains the artist’s label on the reverse. The work has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The white painted frame is the original and also in excellent condition. Fry was a prolific painter and lived and worked in Dorset, his work is mainly landscape and this is an unusual example in still life.
